Who is Justin Watts?

Duke’s new Assistant Coach, Tight Ends Coach who was a Wide Receiver for Clemson who was hired by Duke’s new Head Coach Manny Diaz. As a Wide Receiver for Clemson Justin Watts played for former Clemson Head Coaches Tommy West, Tommy Bowden from 1996-97-98-99-2000. While Justin Watts was playing for Clemson he was a was a five-year letterwinner (1996-97-98-99-2000) as a wide receiver at Clemson, becoming one of only two student-athletes at the time to ever earn five letters in football as a Tiger. He finished his career with 51 receptions for 561 yards and was honored as a scholar-athlete at the 1999 Peach Bowl awards luncheon. The Tigers earned bowl berths in four of his five seasons.
Then Justin Watts went on to graduate with with a bachelor's degree in parks, recreation, and tourism management in 2000. Following Justin Watts playing career as a wide receiver for Clemson he went on to serve as a Graduate Assistant. where he coached Wide Receivers before becoming Wide Receivers Coach at UT Chattanooga from 2003 -2004 before becoming Recruiting Coordinator, Wide Receivers Coach at UT Chattanooga in 2005 before leaving UT Chattanooga to become Recruiting Coordinator, Wide Receivers Coach at Middle Tennessee State from 2006-2014 before spending 9 seasons on Appalachian State where he coached Wide Receivers from 2015-2017 where he was Recruiting Coordinator, Wide Receivers Coach in 2018. Recruiting Coordinator, Tight Ends Coach in 2019-2020 Assistant Head Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Tight Ends Coach in 2021 where he was Assistant Head Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Tight Ends Coach before becoming Pass Game Coordinator, Assistant Coach, Tight Ends Coach in his finals seasons coaching at Appalachian State.

I want to thank Coach Watts for everything he has done for App State over the last nine years. Coaching multiple positions and serving as an Assistant Coach since 2021 . He has been an intergral part of our championship success on the field and on the recruiting trail. Justin his wife Lauren and their kids Chase and Kendell are family. He is the definition of giving your all for App, and we wish him well at his next stop. There will be a competitive search for his replacement.
