Duke is kicking off 2025 season by hosting Elon Thursday night in Durham!

A season ago Duke kicked off their 2024 season in a winning way Friday August 30, 2025 under the direction of new Head Coach Manny Diaz as they beat Elon 26-3 in Durham.

As Duke beat Elon 26-3 in Durham Duke’s defense held Elon to just a Jack Berkowitz field goal that was kicked, made with 14 seconds left to go in the 4th quarter.

Offensively for Duke Todd Pelino kicked 32 yard field goal to give Duke a 3-0 lead in 1st quarter. In 2nd quarter Jaquez Moore ran for 7 yard touchdown , Todd Pelino kicked, made extra point extending Duke’s lead over Elon in 2nd quarter 10-0. In 3rd quarter Duke extended their lead yet again this time with a Todd Pelino 42 yard field goal as well as touchdown thrown by Maalik Murphy to Jeremiah Hasley though the two point conversion failed putting Duke up on Elon 13-0 19-0. In the 4th quarter Eli Pancol caught 7 yard pass from Maalik Murphy , Todd Pelino kicked, made extra point.

Following Duke kicking off 2024 season in a winning way under the direction of new Head Coach Manny Diaz Manny Diaz had this to say about how his team opposed defensively about his team opposed Elon at the line of scrimmage had this to say about quarterback Maalik Murphy the transfer from Texas!

Kickoff is set for 7:30pm from Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium!

The game is going to be televised on ACC Network Extra with Matt Schick , Forest Conoly , Michella Chester commentating!

Matt Schick joined ESPN in 2012 as a college studio host on ESPNU. He continues to host a number of studio shows across college sports on ESPN platforms, as well as serving as a play-by-play commentator.

Prior to joining ESPN, Schick was seen on KETV in Omaha, Neb., where he anchored, produced and reported. He also co-hosted and produced the Schick and Nick Show on 1620 The Zone, also in Omaha. Schick began in television in 2001 at NTV in Kearney, Neb. He started his career in sports radio after college at 950 AM The Fan in Denver.

Schick was born and raised in Rochester, N.Y. He is a 2001 graduate of the University of Colorado with a degree in broadcast news.

Schick served on the Board of Directors for the Nebraska chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and also partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands.

Michella Chester is currently a freelance sports reporter, host and digital reporter. She is the NCAA Digital host/reporter for College Volleyball, Softball and Baseball. She is the Big Ten Network college Baseball and Softball digital host. And, she does sideline coverage for Big Ten Network as well As ESPN Volleyball. She recently sideline reported for the inaugural season of League One pro Volleyball that aired on ESPN, and sideline reported for the 2024 NCAA Volleyball Regionals on ESPN. 

Michella graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Journalism, a minor in Sport Management and a Sports Media Certificate. GO DAWGS!

At UGA, she worked as a video production assistant at IMG Media where she shot, edited and created digital content for all Georgia Athletics. She was the captain on the Women’s Lacrosse team, where her team traveled across the country to compete in tournaments. Michella was also a reporter for Grady Newsource and Grady Sportsource and a member of the Honors College.

Michella interned at Fox Sports South in the Digital Media department. She worked as an on-camera personality for short form creative content created in studios, controlled FSS social media accounts and helped with video production for digital platforms.

Michella grew up in a family with three girls, but her dad is probably the biggest sports fan there is. After spending years watching football on Sundays with him, she became enamored with the world of sports media, and hopes to continue to grow in the field of sports broadcasting and reporting.
